Humanist stamp by NavyBlueSapphire Humanist stamp by NavyBlueSapphire
For all the humanists/freethinkers/anti-theists/atheists/etc. out there.

Humanism is the general category for a belief that people can judge right from wrong not based on a god(s) or any other divine/supernatural power, but upon themselves & each other.
Humanism rejects self-righteous justifications; such as belief without reason, the supernatural, or any texts of said "divine" origin.

Mm, -- Basically, it's the rejection of religion.

<3 If you don't share my beliefs, I don't really give a flying fuck. So please don't comment on this telling me how wrong you might think it is or whatever, because I'll either block you, report your comment as spam, or just flat-out ignore you.
But who knows? I might be in the mood for a good lolreligious fight.

(: Good day.

I may have a religion, but I never put religion first in debate, especially if the debate isn't religion based -u-

I'm an agnostic, so I aknowledge the possibility of a creative force in the universe. In fact, my humanism forces me to reject absolute atheism as much as absolute theism, as both fall under the burden of proof.

However, I do not believe we NEED a god. Empathy and kindness are inherent in human nature.

Humanism is the the belief of all humans saving the Earth and Earth is pointless without humans, darling. NOT non-relgion.
Trust me, I'm not religious, I'm not anything,
Humanism is a selfish degusing thing, it believes Humans have made the world perfect, and kept the land sacred, also, believe humans deserve everything.
I do not know where you are getting such definitions, but Humanism is the love of humans, and people. Nothing to do with religion.
Humanism is a horrible thing, and should be kept off this land.

PROUD NON-RELIGOUS ANTI-HUMANIST!

Or something to do with philosophy...

Either way I'm lovin' it:heart:

yup. there are religious and nonreligious humanists, altho religious humanism seems to contradict the main idea of humanism. humanism is centered on an understanding of morality that comes from within, rather than from blind faith...it isnt about the actual existence of a god or not, depending on ones perspective of what a god is.

That's basically what I learned in my World History class.
Simply I just don't believe that there is a higher deity; all humans are equal with our own morals. I don't believe in anyone being "above" or more "powerful" than anyone else. I wish we lived in a world with coexistance instead of fighting for power over another.
But I can dream lolol

Yes!Thats my view of it too. I'm a humanist because i think people should look to themselves and overall human happiness for their morals whether or not a "god" exists but im also an atheist because i dont believe any being is superior to all other beings. And in class weve been talking about existentialism and i need to do more research but i like what ive heard about it so far.

and yeah, i think coexistence is achievable but will never be achieved (morbid i kno). I wrote an essay about empathy and in the last paragraph i talked about how peace is achievable but wont be achieved.but we should still try, even if none else will. :)

You speak the truth my friend. :peace:
I used to go by "Atheist" but then a lot of my religious friends chewed my ass out for it, so calling myself a Humanist is like a much nicer way of saying Atheist teehee

o: I wanna read that paper lolol
What's existentialism? it sounds interesting.

Existentialism is when someone realizes the world is pointless, meaninless, therefore absurd, and finds a way to make their own meaning out of life throughout themselves.

Existential angst is when a person tries to find how themselves as an individual play a part in the big role of life, in other words, they are anxious and worried about where they are and what role they cast in this world. :) Hope I kind of helped.. we're learning about it in English and stuff haha

I sort of like the sound of that
Both of them actually lol

idk I'm just htat kind of person that doesn't truly see a purpose in life. Kind of dark I know, but I just put way too much thought into these kinds of things

Oh, it's not dark at all! :3
Actually I find myself a bit of an existentialist to some sort of degree. It makes sense, We don't have to truly understand something to live with it.

You know? Existentialists are optimists of the whole absurd reality, because they try to make their own meaning to their lives and such..

I see organizations like that in the same way I see religion; people say that they killed another person in the name of god. So what if some loon comes by saying that he killed a person in the name of PETA? it just doesn't seem right to me. Oh well though.

There are extremists for both. At least PETA's motive is to save lives, whereas religion tends to be about following something whether it saves lives or not. But yeah, I am a pescatarian but i still would never condone murder in the name of animal rights, but is PETA really advocating murder or r there just extremist members of peta? I'm not an expert on PETA, but i dont think PETA can be judged by PETA extremists...just my opinion. Unfortuneately, its hard to rlly be an expert on anything animal rights-related because there is so much false research out there that theres rlly no 100% accurate evidence for either side.

screw them. call urself what u want...not that its any of my business..

im not an expert on existentialism but basically its the philosophical idea tht we r the sum of our choices. what im not sure about tho is whether they base the morality of a choice on the motive or the reaction. if its on the motives of a choice then i agree. it,like humanism, also involves people being their own "gods". no higher power.

Yeah, unfortuneatly most teens dnt try to think about philosophy in depth, and most adults are blinded by tradition and superiority complexes...so its nice to meet someone that actually cares.

and are you sure? maybe we just 'rediscovered' the phrase. what i mean by that is that it was already made but we made it up without hearing it ourselves.

sorry, this is way after the fact but they r similar in some ways and a person can be both. the main difference is that atheists dont believe in the existence of a god and humanists don't necessarily believe in the morality of a god. however, their are people who r religious that call themselves humanists.
